Bomb Threats Disrupt Indian Airlines, Sparking Safety Concerns and Passenger Anxiety
On Thursday, a wave of 70 new bomb threats targeted major Indian airlines, including Air India, Vistara, Akasa Air, and IndiGo, according to sources quoted by PTI. The threats, though unfounded, have caused widespread disruption and raised concerns over aviation safety.
An Akasa Air spokesperson confirmed that several of its flights on October 24 had received security alerts. “Our Emergency Response teams are closely monitoring the situation and are in constant contact with security and regulatory authorities. We are following all safety protocols in coordination with local officials,” the spokesperson said.
Air India also faced similar threats, with a spokesperson confirming that some flights had received bomb threats via social media. “Relevant authorities were immediately informed, and we strictly followed all security protocols. The safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remains our top priority,” the airline official stated.
IndiGo Airlines reported security-related alerts for around 20 domestic and international flights. Passengers were safely disembarked, and the airline worked closely with authorities to ensure all safety procedures were followed.
These threats are part of an alarming trend, with nearly 250 flights receiving bomb threats in the past 10 days. Though all have been hoaxes, the threats have caused significant disruptions, forcing flight diversions and leaving passengers and security agencies on edge.
The Indian government is now planning to implement stricter measures to prevent future hoax bomb threats, which have created chaos and anxiety among travelers and aviation staff alike.
