Terror Attack in Kashmir Claims Lives of Two Army Porters, Leaves Soldiers Wounded
SRINAGAR: In a tragic turn of events, two civilian porters working with the Indian Army lost their lives in a terror attack near Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination in north Kashmir, on Thursday evening. The attack, which occurred in the remote Bota Pathri area, left three soldiers and another porter injured, adding to the sorrow.
The porters, essential in helping the Army navigate difficult terrain, were accompanying soldiers on their way to the Nagin post, located in the Afrawat mountain range. As the Army vehicle advanced through the rugged landscape, it came under sudden and heavy gunfire from terrorists. The sound of gunshots echoed through the serene valley, turning what had been a regular patrol into a nightmare.
Despite the immediate efforts of the soldiers to retaliate and secure the area, two of the porters tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Among the survivors, three soldiers and one porter sustained serious wounds and were quickly evacuated to a military hospital for treatment.
The porters, who often risk their lives alongside the military in these high-risk areas, were part of a tight-knit community working in some of the harshest conditions. Their loss is being deeply felt by their families and the Army, who described them as courageous civilians dedicated to aiding the country’s security forces.
This attack underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the Kashmir region, even as efforts continue to maintain peace and security. Security forces have launched an intense search operation in the area to locate the attackers, who managed to flee the scene.
The assault not only highlights the dangers faced by military personnel but also sheds light on the sacrifices made by civilians like the porters, who are vital in supporting Army operations in difficult and dangerous terrains.
