Hockey, Shooting, and Wrestling Likely to Be Dropped from 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games
MELBOURNE: Hockey is likely to be removed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as the host city seeks to reduce costs, according to several media reports. However, both the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) have remained silent on the issue.
Hockey, which has been a part of the Commonwealth Games since its debut in 1998, may be cut from the program alongside netball and road racing, as Glasgow organizers aim to create a leaner event to fit their budget.
Additionally, two other key sports, shooting and wrestling—disciplines where India has historically performed well—are also expected to be excluded from the 2026 Games, significantly impacting the country’s medal prospects.
