9 Killed, 33 Injured After Bus Overturns in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur

A tragic road accident in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district claimed the lives of nine people and left 33 others injured after a mini bus overturned near Sagran village on Monday. The incident also involved an Alto car, police said.
According to Mukerian Deputy Superintendent of Police Kulwinder Singh Virk, the mini bus carrying around 40 passengers was en route from Hajipur to Dasuya when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Authorities are investigating whether overspeeding, overloading, or a mechanical failure led to the accident.
The injured were rushed to Dasuya Civil Hospital. Three critically injured individuals – Raj Rani (55), Sanjeev Singh (45), and Khushi Mehta (22) – were referred to higher medical centres for advanced care. Six people were discharged after receiving first aid, while the condition of the remaining 24 was reported to be stable, according to Dr. Manmohan Singh, senior medical officer at the hospital.
Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Malik visited the hospital and accident site to supervise relief and rescue operations. DC Jain announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those seriously injured, along with complete coverage of medical expenses for the injured.

- Raju Bala (5) and Meena (30) of Budhabaar village
- Love Kumar (50) from Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district
- Gurmit Ram (65) of Haler village
- Satwinder Kaur (55) of Jalal Chak village
- Balbir Kaur (60) of Dasuya
- Sanjeev Kumar (30) of Gurdaspur district
- Subag Rani (55) of Sahora village
The identity of one male victim, approximately 50 years old, is still being confirmed.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families affected.
