5 Army Personnel Killed in Tragic Vehicle Accident Near LoC in J&K’s Mendhar

In a heart-wrenching incident on Tuesday evening, five Indian Army personnel were killed, and several others injured when a vehicle carrying security personnel plunged into a gorge near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar. The soldiers were reportedly on operational duty when the vehicle rolled down into the steep gorge, causing the fatalities.
Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of the five deceased soldiers and are providing aid to the injured, some of whom have sustained critical injuries. The vehicle had ten soldiers on board, and while five were fatally injured, the remaining soldiers are being treated for their injuries.
The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the brave soldiers. In a statement on social media, the 16 Corps said, “All ranks of WhiteKnightCorps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the Poonch sector. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care.”
Accidents involving vehicles falling into gorges are unfortunately common in Jammu and Kashmir due to the region’s challenging mountainous terrain. Just days earlier, on December 15, two army personnel were injured in a similar accident in the Gurez area. Another tragic incident in September saw one soldier lose his life, while six others were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Sukrala Mata Ashram.
This latest tragedy underscores the inherent risks faced by our armed forces while serving in such difficult terrain, as they continue to serve with courage and dedication.
